Have you recently noticed a significant increase in the shedding of your hair? While some shedding is normal, an excessive increase can be an early indication of hair loss. Dr. Bruce Marko reflects on early warning signs that you may be experiencing early in the process:

Early Signs of Hair Loss
Increased Shedding
Hair shedding, in small to moderate quantities, is a normal part of the hair growth cycle. It is normal to experience hair shedding when washing or brushing your hair. However, if you begin to notice a sudden increase in the amount of hair that falls with each shed — you may be in the midst of the earliest stage of hair loss. This is one of the earliest signs of hair loss.
Telogen Effluvium (TE) and Other Conditions
Before you assume that you are losing your hair: consider the other possibilities. It is possible that your increased hair loss is temporary. Increased hair shedding can be temporarily brought on by a variety of other factors, including conditions such as Telogen Effluvium. TE is a type of hair loss that is often triggered by physical or emotional stress. This form of hair loss is not only temporary, but usually reversible. There are also a variety of medications that prompt a side effect of hair loss. It is important to first speak with your primary care physician for more details.
Thinning Hair
Are you noticing that your hair is becoming less dense? Dr. Bruce Marko often inspects his patients’ hair for thinning; particularly in the top area of the head. This is an early and typical symptom of hair loss. You may also notice that your hairline is receding or part line is widening, which may be more evident due to the thinning of your hair overall.
The Good News
If you are experiencing increased shedding, hair thinning, hairline receding, a widening part line or any combination of these symptoms, the bad news is: you might be experiencing hair loss. But don’t worry: there is good news, too!
According to Hair Restoration Surgeon Dr. Bruce Marko, early detection can go a long way in replenishing and restoring your hair.
