Outside the clinic, Dr. Bruce Marko pursues his wellness philosophy through a different discipline: CrossFit, a full-body approach to functional fitness that encourages restoration in a way that’s quite the physical workout!

What Is CrossFit?

CrossFit is a form of functional fitness training that combines elements of lifting, pushing, pulling, running and carrying into its workouts. By emphasizing a culture of community, CrossFit has grown into a global fitness movement since emerging on the fitness scene in the 2000s. 

What Does a CrossFit Workout Look Like?

A typical CrossFit workout is short and intense. It often blends several types of training into a single session. If you’d like to give the fitness training style a try, here’s Bruce Marko’s go-to CrossFit workout for beginners:

First, begin with a 3-minute warmup of your choice. Bruce Marko recommends marching in place, rolling your shoulders or doing air squats — or a combination of a few of those!

Then, complete three rounds of the following exercises at your own pace:

  • 10 air squats
  • 8 incline push-ups using a couch or counter
  • 12 alternating reverse lunges
  • 10 glute bridges
  • 20 seconds of mountain climbers
  • 30 seconds of rest

Because this is all about confidence-building, Bruce Marko encourages you to start at your own pace. Push yourself to do more in time — but not right away. Do what feels right and natural. You don’t want to overexert yourself — that’s the fastest way to burnout and give up. Be easy on yourself: you’re already making progress just by starting!
